Looking for unique things to do in Barcelona to make your vacation more exciting? We’ve got you covered! Here are some of our favorite ideas.
You’ll find unusual experiences, thrilling adventures, and classic things to do. These activities give you moments to relax and explore different areas of the city. Barcelona is a wonderful city full of exciting things to see and do!
1. Visit Catalonia’s most famous prison La Model
La Model, a revolutionary jail established in 1904, supposed to be a model prison. The jail started out on Barcelona’s outskirts, but as the city developed, it moved to L’Eixample.
Executions, riots, and escapes occurred at the jail, which closed in 2017. Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 4 pm to 6 pm, the building is free to view. You may add this plan to your vacation last minute as bookings aren’t required.
2. Picnic at Montjuïc
Montjuïc, a hill in Barcelona, is popular in citizens. In the evenings and weekends, you’ll see people running, walking, playing sports at the facilities, or waiting for the next event at Sant Jordi.
Montjuïc has various gardens, such as the Botanical Gardens and the Mossèn Costa i Llobera Gardens. If the weather is beautiful, lunch in a garden or hilltop greenspace. It is the best way to leave the city and relax in the woods. This is one of the Unique Things To Do In Barcelona that offers a perfect blend of nature and history.
3. Visit Barcelona’s old bomb shelters
More than 2.750 people killed, 7.000 injured and 300 buildings were damaged during Barcelona’s worst Civil War. Barcelona’s security was weak and ready for the bombs. More than 1.400 air-raid shelters were built for people to stay during the attack. Most shelters were damaged, but a few are still open.
Refuge 307 is in Poble Sec. The shelter offers English-language tours every Sunday at 10:30 h. We propose the 3.5 € trip to see Barcelona that the guides won’t tell you about.
4. Take a trip with the nicest guide
You only need to love hiking, be in Barcelona, and be ready to meet amazing individuals to enjoy this experience! Forrest Delph of Intothewildcat will handle the rest.
Each Sunday, she takes 8-10 people on a trip in Catalonia’s woods. She plans routes, does walks, and handles transportation. You only need to show up at the meeting spot (always Barcelona). You’ll meet the group and take public transportation to the hike’s destination. We almost forgot. Signing up needs speed! First-come, first-served reservations.
5. SUP board for morning
Having a city beach lets you swim or play water sports whenever! SUP is a popular activity in La Barceloneta, where various stores rent boards.
Try morning stand-up paddling at La Barceloneta to start your day. Watch sunrise from the water and the city shine in the morning light. La Barceloneta is cleaner than it is later in the day. It’s peaceful, and early risers get a beautiful sunrise.
SUP is offered at many La Barceloneta centers. It takes 1.5 hours and may be done alone or with a guide. We liked Anywhere Water Sports and Ungravity.
6. Face escape room tasks
Are you ready to think while having fun? Escape rooms activate brains and make you laugh. If you have a free afternoon or evening, they can improve your vacation. Barcelona boasts different escape room companies, each with one or more fun activities where you must solve brain-teasers, find keys, and break passwords to escape!
From our experience, these are the best city escape rooms:
Maximum Escape: Every game has beautiful scenery. The escape rooms focus on stories and adventure rather than keys and numbers codes, engaging visitors in a magical world. Our favorite was Overlook Hotel, based on The Shining. Vault 27 (90 minutes!) in Fallout and Ulysses, which seems like a space movie, were also fun.
After Party: This funny room is excellent for parties. Imagine the Hangover and you’ll understand!
La Mina: An hour-long mine escape game for explorers. Excellent decor for an entry-level game. The escape room is at L’Hospitalet, outside Barcelona, but available by metro. Although their website is in Spanish, they speak English.
7. Explore Roman Barcelona
The Romans, the city’s earliest Christian community, left a 4,000-m2 deep space below the Plaça del Rei. Sign up to explore Barcelona when it was Barcino to learn about its history. Purchase tickets online or at the MUHBA office in Plaça del Rei.
What’s underground is amazing! We were surprised by the place’s size after expecting a few columns and ruins. Under the square, ruins cover everything.
Visitors will see a 2nd-century A.D. laundry, a vineyard, a fish industry, and Barcelona’s earliest Christian community’s daily life.
8. Find your inner artist in a paint-and-wine workshop
Paint and drink your favorite wine one night. You may go wild or follow the instructions to create your night’s image. Canvases are tiny enough to fit in your checked bag and all supplies are provided.
If you fail with the brush, don’t give up. Wine will spark your imagination after a few drinks!
9. Visit Barcelona’s oldest store
Cereria Subirà, Barcelona’s oldest open business, lies in Gothic Quarter’s small roads. This candle business has been making candles since 1761.
The structure and its candles are great looking. Old furniture and an elegant staircase will take you back to Barcelona decades ago.
10. Visit one of Barcelona’s famous theaters
You last went to the movies when? Last time you saw a movie abroad? Cinema Events is a great way to see a movie while traveling.
It has red carpets, classic film posters, and an antique feel. It looks like an old movie theater. However, this theater has huge screens and modern picture and sound methods.
11. Disconnect on a Barcelona terrace
The noise, traffic, and crowd of a European center may be stressful.Fortunately, Barcelona offers many peaceful spots for your much-deserved break. Beautiful patios in the city let you recharge and leave the city trouble.
Some of our favorites:
The terrace of Antic Teatre in El Born is a nice place to relax. Why? Locals love it, therefore it’s always crowded! Chatting under the tree leaves in a pleasant mood makes it simple to forget the time!
pub Central Raval: A charming courtyard houses this pub. The terrace is in the same building as La Central del Raval library (worth seeing). Expect reading, nice energy, polite service, and palm palms!
Olokuti: An eco-friendly apparel, local, and home goods store’s backyard garden. A hidden treasure in Gràcia is the garden behind the business.
